SILK PRODUCTION
Silk production dates back thousands of years in ancient China. We are proud of the balance we have brought incorporating innovation at Silkinc, which we have interwoven within the core silk production process that has been developed based on tried and tested experience.
Silk Farming
The silkworms are gathered, fed on mulberry leaves and their cocoons then harvested.
Reeling
Silk is extracted from silkworm cocoons and becomes the raw material for silk weaving. A single cocoon can extract about 1000 meters of raw silk. We use the highest quality threads that have no breaks in our garments. However, we do not waste our smaller pieces either, saving them for smaller products and maintaining the highest quality for ever item.
Spinning And Weaving
The process of spinning unwinds the fibres so that they lay flat ready for the weaving process. There are many different ways in which silk can be woven and the finish and feel will depend on the type of weave.
Dyeing And Finishing
Silkinc uses low impact dyes where our silk is immersed in a dye bath to soak up the colour. Our innovative finishing processes add additional benefits to our silk including fire resistance and crease-proofing.
Our people at Silkinc make our organisation; Despite advances in technologies, silk production still very much remains a labour-intensive process. A lot of hard work is involved and we treasure and respect the effort and skills required in producing each and every Silkinc product. We have personal relationships with all those involved across this production process, ensuing high standards of care for our employees at every stage.
