The Lunar New Year and many festive occassions are often known for bringing family together to celebrate. We also wanted to highlight the importance of friendships, the ones who are just like family, during this special event. Our founder Yang, and our Head of Overseas, Lakshmii, have been friends for 18 years since the first day of university where they happened to live next door to one another and be on the same course. Throughout this blog, they have shared their thoughts on how, despite geographic boundaries for 15 of the years, they have kept a strong bond leading to them working together from day one of Silkinc.
Just like silk, friendships are soft yet strong, intricate yet simple, and undeniably precious. Friendships take time and effort to nurture, like any important relationship, but they can often be the first to fall to the wayside when lives become busier. 'We don't get to see each other in person very much as we live on the other side of the world from one another. But the moments we do see one another are very special. We are fully in each others presence and always comfortable.'

Embroidering Friendship with Care and Rituals
'We take sustainability seriously but we also take our friendship just as seriously! Through business trips for Silkinc as well as our holidays, we find moments to meet. Our latest chance was in Paris in December 2024, for the Silkinc event at the Louvre. Even through it was just a few days, it was so lovely to grab a proper coffee and croissant together as we walked down the Parisian streets.'
Friendships, like silk, become more precious with intentional care and meaningful rituals. 'At university, we found we had more similarities than expected despite coming from different parts of the world, from the importance family plays to us to how we loved getting involved in all the different things that university had to offer. Even now, although we live very different day to day lives and our strengths differ, I think we work together to bring out the best in one another.'

'Our birthdays happen to be three days apart. Yang is always so thoughtful, just this past month sharing a beautiful and elegant bracelet. Our gifts are not always things, I remember sharing a photo collage of our memories on my last day in our university flat.'
